Discharge summary is one of the key components of Electronic health records. For mental health patients, the discharge summary serves the dual purpose of communication with primary care and as a future reference within healthcare. Pertaining to the critical sensitivity of the condition and social stigma associated with mental health, people with mental health-related disorders may have health concerns and multiple dilemmas about their post-discharge life. Currently, in many cases, like for insurance purposes, post-discharge care, and medications, the patient has to share the complete discharge summary despite the fact that the document owner might not need the complete discharge summary with all components. We addressed this problem by developing a standardized & interoperable psychiatric discharge summary with role-based access.
The discharge summary is based on FHIR standards so as to ensure standardized data sharing and integration. The discharge summary is thus divided into multiple components based on FHIR standards and sensitivity of the medical records and information. The built in feature of role based access will ensure that patients share only that component of the discharge summary which they require.
