This study investigates the impact of notches on HDPE pipes, employing burst tests on notched HDPE pipes with varying depth ratios (a/t). The objective is to assess the burst pressure corresponding to each notch depth. Utilizing 3D finite element analyses within the context of elastic-plastic behavior, Von-Mises equivalent stress values are predicted at various positions near the notch. Critical Von-Mises equivalent stress values are anticipated for different notch shapes, depths, and hydrostatic pressure levels. The results reveal a substantial dependence of burst pressure on the notch depth, with equivalent stress reaching maximum values in the immediate vicinity of the notch and gradually diminishing towards the outer limits of the pipes.
