Denial-of-service (DoS) attacks are pervasive threats to modern network systems, potentially disrupting critical services and cause significant financial and operational damage. This article presents a DoS attack specifically targeting the precision time protocol (PTP), which is a fundamental protocol for achieving precise time synchronization in distributed systems. This attack uses an unusual packet injection flood technique. Through a comprehensive analysis, we highlight the vulnerabilities, operational disruptions, and potential countermeasures available for mitigating the consequences of DoS attacks on PTP.
