The Love Canal is a hazardous waste dump-site located in the center of a middle class community in Niagara Falls, New York" which was used as municipal and chemical waste disposal area for residue from the manufacture of chlorinated hydrocarbons from the 1920s until 1953 when it was covered with earth. Perhaps because they didn’t understand the potential risks associated with Hooker’s chemical wastes primary schools and homes had been constructed around the canal .The tragedy of Love Canal were damaged countless families and ruined the environment for many years. The toxic contamination found throughout the soil brought emotional as well as physical pain to those who had purchased homes in the Love Canal area or who had sent their children to its school system. The various additional substances discovered at Love Canal produce a range of acute, sudden symptoms as well as chronic or long term health problems. Proper disposal of hazardous waste is important in protecting the public health. Site selection and site preparation are important factors to be considered for hazardous waste disposal.
