Plastic surgery outpatient satisfaction in South Africa. The main purpose of a medical facility is to improve the welfare of patients, so optimising patient satisfaction is a primary goal. However, in South Africa, research on patient satisfaction is scarce, especially in outpatient settings. To learn more, one researcher recently surveyed 142 patients at a plastic surgery outpatient department in South Africa. Overall, patients were happy with the facility, with customer satisfaction scores achieving a “good” rating, but they weren’t satisfied with the appointment scheduling process or the long wait times. There was also a some dissatisfaction with the physical environment, especially with regard to noise and lighting. In contrast, patients were very pleased with the doctors and nurses themselves. Education was a factor in overall satisfaction, as patients who were less educated reported feeling more satisfied and most patients had a high-school or lower level of education, which may have accounted for some of the overall satisfaction. Nevertheless, the findings reveal that patients are pleased with the human portion of the received services at this center, but would prefer improvements in areas such as scheduling and ambience.
